WinRAR Explorer shows all files in archive root directory from subfolders

article

WinRAR is a popular file archiving program that enables users to compress large files and folders into smaller, more manageable archives. It also allows users to easily split archives into multiple volumes and encrypt them with passwords. WinRAR is the preferred choice for many users because of its wide range of features, good compression ratio, and support for a variety of file formats.

However, one of the issues that some users have encountered when using WinRAR is that the Explorer window shows all files in the archive's root directory, as well as in subfolders. This can be quite confusing for some users, as the files can be difficult to differentiate from one another.

The problem is caused by the way WinRAR displays files in the Explorer window. By default, the program will show all files in the archive's root directory, as well as in its subfolders. This can make it difficult to determine which files belong to which folder.

Fortunately, there is an easy way to fix this issue. To do so, simply open WinRAR and select the \Options\ tab from the top menu. Then, select the \Explorer\ option from the left menu. This will open the Explorer window.

Next, click the \Show Directories First\ checkbox. This will cause WinRAR to display the folders first, followed by the files contained within them. This makes it much easier to differentiate between the different folders and files in the archive.

Once you have made the change, click \OK\ to save the settings. Now, when you open the Explorer window in WinRAR, you will see the folders listed first, followed by the files contained in them. This makes it much easier to identify the different files and folders in the archive.

In conclusion, WinRAR's default setting of displaying all files in the archive's root directory, as well as in the subfolders, can be confusing for some users. Fortunately, this issue can be easily fixed by simply selecting the \Show Directories First\ checkbox in the Explorer window. This will cause WinRAR to list the folders first, followed by the files contained in them. This makes it much easier to differentiate between the different folders and files in the archive.
