How to set Ethernet as a metered connection in Windows 10?

For Windows 10 users who wish to set their Ethernet connection as a metered connection, there are several steps that can be taken to achieve this.

Metered connections are useful for users who are on limited data plans or who wish to control their data usage. A metered connection will prevent Windows from downloading large updates and will allow the user to control the amount of data they consume.

The first step to setting the Ethernet connection as a metered connection is to open the Settings window. This can be done by clicking on the Start Button and then selecting the gear icon in the lower left corner of the Start Menu.

Once the Settings window is open, the user should select the Network & Internet option from the list of settings on the left side of the window. This will open the Network & Internet Settings window, which will show the user the various networks that are connected to the computer.

The user should then select their Ethernet connection from the list of networks and click on the Properties button. This will open the Ethernet Properties window, which will display the current settings of the Ethernet connection.

At the bottom of the Ethernet Properties window, the user should select the Set as metered connection option. This will activate the metered connection and inform Windows that the user is on a limited data plan.

Once the metered connection has been enabled, the user should click the OK button at the bottom of the window to save their settings. The user should then close the Settings window and the Ethernet connection should now be set as a metered connection.

It is important to note that setting the Ethernet connection as a metered connection does not prevent the user from downloading updates from Windows. Windows will still download updates, but the user will be able to control the amount of data used for those updates.

In addition, setting the Ethernet connection as a metered connection may also prevent certain apps from working properly. This is because some apps may require a certain amount of data to function, and the metered connection will not provide that data.

It is also important to note that setting the Ethernet connection as a metered connection will not prevent the user from using the internet for browsing or streaming. The metered connection will only affect the amount of data that Windows downloads for updates.

Setting the Ethernet connection as a metered connection is a simple process that can help users control their data usage and prevent Windows from downloading large updates. By following the steps outlined above, Windows 10 users can easily set their Ethernet connection as a metered connection.
