How to reorder the files of a FAT32 file system?

Reordering Files on a FAT32 File System

As an IT administrator, it is important to know how to reorder files on a FAT32 file system. FAT32 is an older file system used by Windows operating systems prior to Windows XP. This file system was popular for a number of reasons, including its ability to support large amounts of data, its compatibility with a variety of hardware products, and its relative ease of use. However, reordering files on this system can be a challenge.

The first step in reordering files on a FAT32 file system is to open the directory where the files are located. In the directory, select the “View” tab and then click on “Details”. This will display a list of the files in the directory and the associated information, such as the file name, modification date, and size.

The next step is to select the files that need to be reordered. This can be done by holding down the “Ctrl” key and clicking on each file that needs to be reordered. Once the files have been selected, right-click on one of them and select “Send To”. This will open a menu with a list of options. Select the “New Folder” option and give the folder a name. This will create a new folder in the directory with the selected files.

After the folder has been created, select the files that need to be reordered and drag them into the new folder. Once the files are in the new folder, they can be reordered by dragging the files in the order they should appear. The order of the files in the folder will determine the order in which they will appear in the directory.

Once the files have been reordered, the changes can be saved by selecting the “Save” option at the top of the window. This will save the changes and the files will now appear in the order they were reordered in the new folder.

Reordering files on a FAT32 file system can be a challenge, but it is possible. By following the steps outlined above, IT administrators can easily reorder files in a FAT32 file system. This can be a useful tool for organizing large amounts of data or for ensuring that certain files appear in a specific order. It is important to remember to save the changes when the files have been reordered, otherwise the changes will not be saved.
