How to make a Start Screen icon for Notepad that will always open a new Notepad when clicked...
As an IT administrator, you may find yourself needing to create a Start screen icon for Notepad that will always open a new Notepad instance. Fortunately, Windows 8 and Windows 10 both provide a way to accomplish this with a few simple steps.
To begin, open the Start menu by pressing the Windows key and then click on the “All Apps” icon in the lower left corner. Scroll down the list of applications until you find Notepad, and then right-click on it. This will bring up a menu with several options, including one that reads “Open File Location.” Select this option.
This will open a File Explorer window with Notepad in it. Right-click on the Notepad icon, and select “Create Shortcut.” A dialog box will open asking if you want to create a shortcut on the desktop. Select “Yes.”
Now, right-click on the newly created shortcut and select “Properties.” This will open another dialog box with several tabs. Select the “Shortcut” tab. In the “Target” field, add the following to the end of the existing text:
/n
This will tell Windows to open a new instance of Notepad each time the shortcut is used. Click “OK” to save your changes.
The next step is to create a pinned tile on the Start screen. To do this, right-click on the shortcut and select “Pin to Start.” This will create a tile on the Start screen with the Notepad icon.
Finally, you can customize the tile to make it easier to identify. To do this, right-click on the tile and select “Resize.” Select “Large” from the list of sizes. This will allow you to add text to the tile. To do this, right-click on the tile again and select “Name”. You can type in whatever text you wish.
Once you have completed these steps, you will have a Start screen icon for Notepad that will always open a new Notepad instance. This is a useful feature for IT administrators, as it allows them to quickly access Notepad without having to open multiple instances of the application.
