How to convert Excel file with multiple sheets to a set of CSV files?

As an IT administrator, you may need to convert an Excel file with multiple sheets into a set of CSV files. This article provides a step-by-step guide to achieving this task.

To begin, open the Excel file in Microsoft Excel. Now, select the sheet that you want to convert to a CSV file. Next, navigate to the File menu, select Save As, and choose the CSV (Comma Separated Values) type from the drop-down menu. Click the Save button to save the file as a CSV.

Repeat the same steps for each sheet in the Excel file, ensuring that each CSV file is given a unique name.

Once all of the sheets have been converted to CSV files, you can combine them into a single file. To do this, open a command prompt window and navigate to the folder containing the CSV files. Then, type the following command:

copy *.csv combined.csv

This command will generate a single file called combined.csv, which contains the data from all of the individual CSV files.

You can also use the Windows PowerShell to combine CSV files. To do this, open a PowerShell window and again navigate to the folder containing the CSV files. Then, type the following command:

get-content *.csv -Encoding UTF8 | set-content combined.csv

This command will generate a single file called combined.csv, which contains the data from all of the individual CSV files.

Finally, if you need to convert an Excel file with multiple sheets into separate CSV files, you can use the Windows PowerShell to achieve this task. To do this, open a PowerShell window and navigate to the folder containing the Excel file. Then, type the following command:

foreach ($sheet in (Get-ExcelSheet -path MyWorkbook.xlsx))
{
Export-Csv -InputObject $sheet -Delimiter \,\ -Path \$($sheet.Name).csv\
}

This command will generate separate CSV files for each sheet in the Excel file.

In conclusion, converting an Excel file with multiple sheets into a set of CSV files is a relatively simple process. You can use the Save As function in Microsoft Excel to convert each sheet to a CSV file, or you can use the Windows PowerShell to combine them into a single file. Alternatively, you can also use the Windows PowerShell to convert the Excel file into separate CSV files.
