How to bring a Windows application back onscreen?

As an IT administrator, it can be frustrating when a seemingly innocuous action causes an application to go off-screen and out of reach. Unfortunately, it does happen, and it can be difficult to get the application back on-screen again. Fortunately, there are a few methods that can be used to bring an application back on-screen.

The first, and simplest, method is to use the taskbar. If the application is open, but off-screen, it will still appear in the taskbar. Simply click on the application’s icon in the taskbar and the application will be brought back into view.

If the application is not appearing in the taskbar, it is likely that it is not running at all. In this case, it will need to be started up again. To do this, open the Start menu and type in the name of the application. This should bring up a shortcut to the application, which can be clicked to start it. Once the application is running, it should be visible on-screen.

If the application is still not visible, the next step is to check the display settings. If the display settings have been changed, it may be the case that the application is now located on a virtual desktop or a second monitor. If this is the case, the application can be brought back on-screen by switching to the correct desktop or monitor.

Another possibility is that the application has been minimized or maximized. This can easily be done using the application’s window controls, or by pressing the Windows key and the down arrow at the same time.

If none of the above methods work, then it may be the case that the application has crashed or is not responding. In this case, the application will need to be closed and restarted. To do this, press the Windows key and the R key at the same time, then type in “taskkill” and press enter. This will bring up a list of applications that are currently running, which can be closed by selecting the application and clicking the “End Task” button.

Finally, if the application is still not visible, then it may be the case that the application is not installed correctly, or is not compatible with the version of Windows that is being used. In this case, the application will need to be reinstalled, or a different version of the application that is compatible with the version of Windows being used will need to be found.

In summary, there are a few methods that can be used to bring an application back on-screen when it has gone off-screen. The most common method is to use the taskbar, but if this does not work, then the display settings, virtual desktops, and window controls should be checked. If the application is still not visible, then it may need to be closed and restarted, or it may need to be reinstalled.
