How to boot to the desktop in Windows 8.1?

Windows 8.1 is the latest version of the popular Microsoft Windows operating system. It includes several new features, such as a new start screen and improved security features. However, some users have found the new start screen to be confusing and have asked how to boot directly to the desktop instead.

The first step is to open the Task Manager. To do this, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc. In the Task Manager window, click on the “More Details” button. This will expand the Task Manager window to show more options.

Next, in the Task Manager window, click on the “Startup” tab. This tab will show all the programs that are set to run when Windows 8.1 starts. Find the program labeled “explorer.exe” and make sure it is enabled. This is the program that is responsible for displaying the desktop and taskbar.

Once you have enabled explorer.exe, click on the “Options” tab in the Task Manager window. In the “Options” tab, click on the “System Settings” button. This will open a window that contains several options. Find the option labeled “Default Operating System” and make sure it is set to “Windows 8.1”.

The next step is to open the “Boot Options” window. To do this, press the Windows Key + R to open the Run window. In the Run window, type “msconfig” and press Enter. This will open the System Configuration window. In the System Configuration window, click on the “Boot” tab.

In the “Boot” tab, find the option labeled “Default OS” and make sure it is set to “Windows 8.1”. Then, find the option labeled “Time to display list of operating systems” and make sure it is set to 0. This will ensure that Windows 8.1 will boot directly to the desktop without showing the start screen.

Finally, click on the “OK” button to save the changes. When you restart your computer, it should now boot directly to the desktop instead of the start screen.

As an IT administrator, it’s important to be aware of how to boot directly to the desktop in Windows 8.1. This will ensure that users are able to access their desktop quickly and efficiently. It also helps prevent confusion and frustration caused by the new start screen. With the steps outlined above, you should be able to easily configure Windows 8.1 to boot directly to the desktop.
