How do I associate .htm's Edit option with Notepad in Windows 7?
As an IT administrator, one of the most important tasks you must complete is to associate file types with the proper applications. In the case of the .htm file type, this means that you must associate it with the desired editing application. There are several ways to do this in Windows 7.
The most basic method is to right-click on the file, select \Open with,\ and then choose the desired application. This will set the file to open with that application in the future. However, this method only works for the single file. To associate the .htm file type with a specific application, you must use the \Set Associations\ control panel.
To access the Set Associations control panel, open the Start menu and type \Set Associations\ into the search box. This will bring up the Set Associations control panel. In the control panel, select the .htm file type from the list of file types. This will bring up a list of applications that the file type can be associated with. Select the desired application (in this case, Notepad) and click \OK\ to save the changes.
Another method of associating the .htm file type with a specific application is to use the file properties. To use this method, right-click on the file, select \Properties,\ and then choose the \Change\ button next to the \Opens With\ option. This will bring up a list of applications that the file type can be associated with. Select the desired application (in this case, Notepad) and click \OK\ to save the changes.
The last method of associating the .htm file type with a specific application is to use the Folder Options. To use this method, open the Start menu and type \Folder Options\ into the search box. This will bring up the Folder Options control panel. In the control panel, select the \File Types\ tab and scroll down to the .htm file type. Select the desired application (in this case, Notepad) and click \OK\ to save the changes.
These are the three methods of associating the .htm file type with a specific application in Windows 7. Using the Set Associations control panel, the file properties, or the Folder Options control panel, IT administrators can easily associate the .htm file type with Notepad or any other desired application.
