Force "Details" folder view to show standard columns in folders with music file in Windows

IT admins need to be able to quickly and easily manage a wide variety of files, including music files. Windows allows users to quickly view and sort files in a folder by using the Details view, which provides a number of useful columns including name, type, size, and date modified. Unfortunately, this view does not automatically show standard columns when viewing folders with music files, leaving administrators with the tedious task of manually adding columns to each folder in order to properly manage their files.

Fortunately, there is a way for IT admins to force the Details view to show standard columns in folders with music files. This can be done by making a few changes to the Windows Registry. Before making any changes to the Registry, it is important to first create a backup of the Registry. This will ensure that any changes can be easily reverted if necessary.

To make the Registry changes, first open the Registry Editor by typing “regedit” in the Run window and pressing Enter. Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Classes\\Local Settings\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Shell\\Bags

Right-click on the Bags folder and select “New” and then “Key”. Name the new key “Music” and then right-click on the newly created key. Select “New”, “DWORD (32-bit) Value”, and name it “Mode”. Double-click the “Mode” entry, set it to “2”, and then click “OK”.

Next, create another new key under the “Music” key and name it “Shell”. Under the “Shell” key, create another key and name it “Columns”. Under the “Columns” key, create a new string value and name it “Order”. Double-click the “Order” entry and enter the following string of characters:

Name,Album,Artist,Genre,TrackNumber,TotalTracks

Now, navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Classes\\Local Settings\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Shell\\Bags\\AllFolders

Create a new key under the “AllFolders” key and name it “Mode”. Double-click the new “Mode” entry, set it to “1”, and then click “OK”.

The changes made to the Registry should now force the Details view to show standard columns in folders with music files. To verify that the changes have taken effect, open a folder with music files and switch the view to Details. The standard columns should now be visible.

By making a few simple changes to the Windows Registry, IT admins can now quickly and easily force the Details view to show standard columns in folders with music files. This will make it much easier for administrators to properly manage their files and make sure that everything is properly organized.
