Find out what program runs in the java.exe process

As an IT admin, you may find yourself in the position of needing to determine what program is running in a java.exe process. This can be especially challenging because there is no built-in way to do this, and it requires a bit of detective work. Luckily, there are a few methods you can use to help you find the answer.

The first method to try is to look at the list of running services in the Windows Task Manager. To do this, open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and select the Services tab. This will show you a list of processes running on the computer. Look for anything associated with the java.exe process and see if you can determine what program it is.

The second method is to use the built-in Windows command line tool called “tasklist.” This can be used to list all of the running processes on the computer. To use it, open the command prompt (Windows+R, type “cmd”, then hit enter), and then type “tasklist /svc”. This will show all of the running services and their associated executable file. Look for the java.exe process and see if you can determine what program it is.

The third method is to use a third-party tool to help you determine what program is running in a java.exe process. There are a few different tools available, such as Process Explorer and Process Monitor, which can be used to figure out what program is running in a java.exe process. These tools are more advanced than the built-in Windows tools, and they can be very helpful in determining what program is running in a java.exe process.

Finally, you can also use the Java Control Panel to help you figure out what program is running in a java.exe process. To access the Java Control Panel, open the Control Panel (Windows+R, type “control”, then hit enter), then select ‘Java’. From here, you can select the ‘Advanced’ tab, then select the ‘Show Process List’ option. This will show you a list of all of the running java.exe processes, and you can look for the process you are trying to identify.

By using one of these methods, you should be able to determine what program is running in a java.exe process. This can be helpful in troubleshooting Java applications, as well as identifying potential security risks. It is important to note, however, that you should never attempt to modify or terminate a process without understanding what it is and what it does.
