Command Prompt in Administrator mode doesn't see mapped drives

When using the Command Prompt in Administrator Mode, it is important to be aware that the Command Prompt may not be able to see any mapped drives. This can be a problem for IT admins who are trying to run certain commands or make changes to their systems, as they may not be able to access the necessary files or folders.

The cause of this issue is that when running the Command Prompt in Administrator Mode, it is running with different permissions than the user account that is logged in. This can mean that the Command Prompt may not have access to the same resources that the user account has access to, such as mapped drives.

In order to get around this issue, there are a few steps that IT admins can take. The first step is to make sure that the user account has the correct permissions to access the mapped drives. This can be done by checking the permissions for the drive in Windows Explorer. If the user account does not have the correct permissions, then it can be granted access by the IT admin.

The second step is to make sure that the Command Prompt is running with the same user account as the user account that is logged in. This can be done by right-clicking on the Command Prompt icon and selecting “Run as different user”. Once this is done, the user account will be able to access the mapped drives.

The third step is to make sure that the Command Prompt is running with the correct permissions. This can be done by right-clicking on the Command Prompt icon and selecting “Properties”. In the Properties window, select the “Compatibility” tab and make sure that the “Run this program as an administrator” option is selected.

Once all of these steps have been followed, the Command Prompt should now be able to see the mapped drives. It is important to remember that this is only necessary when using the Command Prompt in Administrator Mode, as normal user accounts will be able to access the mapped drives without any issues.

Overall, IT admins can use these steps to ensure that the Command Prompt in Administrator Mode can see any mapped drives. This can be a critical issue when running certain commands or making changes to the system, as the Command Prompt may not be able to access the necessary files or folders without the correct permissions.
