Change Recycling Bin Location

When it comes to IT administration, it’s important to know how to effectively manage the locations of various files and folders. One of the most commonly used folders on a computer is the Recycle Bin, which is where deleted files and folders are stored until they are permanently removed. Unfortunately, the default location of the Recycle Bin can be difficult to change and can cause problems when attempting to move it to another location. In this guide, we will discuss how to change the location of the Recycle Bin in Windows 10.

First, you will need to open the File Explorer. You can do this by pressing the Windows key + E on your keyboard. Once the File Explorer window is open, navigate to the “View” tab and open the “Options” menu.

Once the “Options” menu is open, select the “View” tab. Here, you should be able to locate the “Show hidden files, folders, and drives” option. Make sure this is checked, as it is a necessary step for changing the location of the Recycle Bin.

Next, navigate to the “Advanced Settings” tab. Here, locate the “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)” option. Make sure this is unchecked, as it is also necessary for changing the location of the Recycle Bin.

Now, create a new folder where you would like the Recycle Bin to be located. You can do this by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting “New” and then “Folder” from the context menu.

Once the new folder is created, open the File Explorer window again and navigate to the “View” tab. Open the “Options” menu again and select the “View” tab. Here, locate the “Show hidden files, folders, and drives” option. Make sure this is unchecked.

Now, navigate to the “Advanced Settings” tab. Here, locate the “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)” option. Make sure this is unchecked.

Now, navigate to the “Recycle Bin” folder. Right-click on it and select “Properties” from the context menu.

Once the “Properties” window is open, locate the “Location” tab. Here, you will be able to change the location of the Recycle Bin. Select the “Browse” button and navigate to the new folder you created. Select the new folder and click “OK”.

Finally, the location of the Recycle Bin has been changed. You can now move files or folders to the new location and they will be stored in the Recycle Bin.

Changing the location of the Recycle Bin can be a useful tool for IT administrators, as it allows them to store deleted files and folders in a more secure location. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you should be able to easily change the location of the Recycle Bin in Windows 10.
