Windows 7 Libraries Folder Dropdowns
Windows 7 is one of the most widely used operating systems in the world. As such, many IT administrators are familiar with its features, including the Libraries folder dropdowns. Unfortunately, these dropdowns can be a nuisance, taking up valuable space in the menu. Fortunately, there is a way to get rid of them.
The Libraries folder dropdowns can be found on the left side of the Windows 7 Start menu. The dropdowns contain shortcuts to commonly used folders, such as Documents, Music, Pictures, and Videos. While the dropdowns may be convenient for some users, they can be a nuisance to those who do not use them frequently.
Fortunately, there is a way to get rid of the Libraries folder dropdowns. To do so, an IT administrator will need to access the registry editor. The registry editor can be accessed by typing “regedit” into the search box on the Start menu. Once the registry editor is open, the administrator will need to navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\FolderDescriptions
Under this key, the administrator will need to locate the entry called “{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}”. This is the value for the Libraries folder dropdowns. To get rid of the dropdowns, the administrator can delete this value.
Once the value has been deleted, the Libraries folder dropdowns will no longer appear on the Start menu. However, it is important to note that this will not delete any of the actual Libraries folders themselves. It will simply remove the shortcut from the Start menu.
For those who are uncomfortable with editing the registry, there is an alternative method for getting rid of the Libraries folder dropdowns. There is a free program called “Start Menu Cleaner” which will do the same thing as editing the registry. The program is available for download from the web.
In conclusion, the Libraries folder dropdowns can be a nuisance, taking up valuable space in the menu. Fortunately, there are two ways to get rid of them. An IT administrator can edit the registry, or they can use a free program called “Start Menu Cleaner”. Either way, the dropdowns will no longer appear on the Start menu.
