Adding an .exe to default path without adding the directory

When dealing with managing computers in an IT environment, it is often necessary to add executables (EXE) to the system's default path in order to make them more readily accessible and easier to use. Adding an EXE to the default path without adding the directory in which it resides can be beneficial in a number of scenarios, ranging from simplifying command line use to making software installation and testing faster and more efficient.

The default path is a list of directories which the operating system will search to locate files, including EXE files. This can be very useful when trying to access a program that is located in a less accessible directory, such as a user's home directory. In addition, adding an EXE to the default path can make it much simpler to use command line programs. This is because the command line will search the default path for the EXE file, rather than having to type the full path to the file.

In order to add an EXE to the default path without adding the directory, the user must first locate the EXE file in the system. This can be done by using the “Find” command in Windows or by navigating to the directory containing the file in the file explorer. Once the EXE has been located, the user must add the full path of the EXE to the system’s environment variables.

To do this, the user must first open the “System Properties” window, which can be found by right-clicking on the “My Computer” icon and selecting “Properties”. In the “System Properties” window, the user can click on the “Advanced” tab and then select the “Environment Variables” button. In the “Environment Variables” window, the user can select the “Path” variable from the list of variables on the left side of the window, and then click the “Edit” button.

Once in the “Edit System Variable” window, the user can add the path of the EXE to the “Variable Value” field, separated from any existing paths by a semicolon. The user can then click the “OK” button to save the changes and exit the window. Once the changes have been saved, the EXE will be part of the system’s default path and will be accessible from any directory in the system.

Adding an EXE to the default path without adding the directory in which it resides can be a great way to make programs more easily accessible and easier to use. It can also make software installation and testing much faster, as the EXE will be accessible from any directory in the system. In order to add an EXE to the default path without adding the directory, the user must locate the EXE file and then add the full path to the system’s environment variables.
